Her father Sanjeev Verma runs a jewelry shop in Rothak, and her mother’s name is Praveen Bala. She also has a brother named Sahil Verma. Her family has always supported her dream of playing cricket. Her father trained her in the beginning and even gave her 5 rupees for every six she hit!
Cricket Journey
Shafali’s love for cricket began when she was just 8 years old. She was so passionate about the game that she often played with boys. Once, to play in a boys’ cricket match, she even pretended to be her brother Sahil and ended up winning the best player award! Shafali was inspired by the legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. She once waited outside his house hoping to meet him!
She started her formal training at the Ram Narayan Cricket Club in Rohtak. Because of her amazing talent, she quickly moved up and practiced with older and more experienced players. By the age of 15, she had already broken records and made her debut for India’s national team in T20 cricket.
In 2023, Shafali made headlines again by leading India to win the Under-19 T20 World Cup. This was a big achievement for her and the entire team.
