Harmanpreet was born on 8th March 1989 in Moga, Punjab. She belongs to a Sikh family. Her father, Harmandar Singh Bhullar, was a sports athlete before becoming a clerk at court. He loved volleyball and basketball and was Harmanpreet’s first coach during her early years. She also has a younger sister, Hemjeet, who teaches English at Guru Nanak College in Moga.

When Harmanpreet was younger, she attended Gian Jyoti School Academy. Despite the distance from her home, she enjoyed the journey because it allowed her to play cricket. Under the guidance of her coach, Kamaldeesh Singh Sodhi, Harmanpreet honed her skills.
