He started playing cricket at a young age. He started playing street cricket in his hometown and at the age of 11 during a local tournament, Amir’s talent was spotted by Asif Bajwa. He asked him to join his cricket academy.

At the age of 15, he was selected by Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram in the Pakistan U19 Team for a series against England. He performed very well in that series. He was also part of the Pakistan Team in the 2008 ICC U19 World Cup.

Amir’s breakthrough year came in 2008 when he made his domestic debut for NAP (National Bank of Pakistan). He took 55 wickets in his debut domestic season. As a result of his performance, he was selected in the Pakistan National Team.
