Sanju Samson hails from a Malayali Christian family and was born in Pulluvila, near Vizhinjam in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala. His father, Samson Viswanath, a retired police constable and former football player, supported Sanju’s cricketing aspirations. Sanju’s elder brother, Saly Samson, has also represented Kerala in junior cricket.
Sanju spent his early childhood in the Police residential colony in North Delhi, studying at Rosary Senior Secondary School. His cricketing journey started under the guidance of coach Yashpal at the academy in DL DAV Model School, Shalimar Bagh. Later, he pursued a B.A. degree in English literature from Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram.
Career Journey
Sanju started his career in junior cricket, and he captained the U-13 Kerala team, winning the Player of the Tournament award in the KSCA Inter-State under-13 tournament.
Sanju represented India in various age groups and was the vice-captain for the U-19 team in the 2014 World Cup. He made his T20 international debut against Zimbabwe in 2015 and later earned his One Day International (ODI) cap in 2021 against Sri Lanka.
