Umar did really well that year, and he became the player who scored the most runs in the entire PSL 2016. He made 335 runs in just seven games, and he got four half-centuries, which is like getting close to a century. But even though he did great, his team didn’t make it to the playoffs and ended up last in the group stage.

He stayed with Lahore Qalandars for the second season, but he didn’t do as well. He only got 164 runs in eight matches with just one fifty. In the third season, he was kept by Lahore Qalandars at first, but later on, he got dropped from the team because he didn’t play very well, and there were some discipline problems.

After that, Umar Akmal joined the Quetta Gladiators team for the fourth season, and he did better. He scored 277 runs in 12 matches.

Umar was supposed to be in the Quetta Gladiators team for the 2020 season, but he got into some trouble. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suspended him because of some issues related to rules. So, he couldn’t play in that season, and they replaced him with another player named Anwar Ali.

Umar Akmal also played in other cricket leagues. He was in the Caribbean Premier League for three seasons. He played for different teams like the Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and the Trinbago Knight Riders. There was a time when he had a health problem and spent a night in the hospital. After that, he had to go through medical checkups.

Umar Akmal’s journey in cricket began when he represented Pakistan in the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia. His impressive performance at the U-19 level earned him a first-class contract. He started his professional career with the Sui Northern Gas team, where he showed his aggressive batting style.

Akmal made his Test debut for Pakistan in 2009 against New Zealand and made a significant impact by scoring 129 runs on his debut. He is the first Pakistani batsman to score both his maiden Test and ODI centuries away from home.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Akmal played for Pakistan and made a name for himself with his outstanding batting skills. He received his first Man of the Match award for a match-winning performance against Sri Lanka, scoring a century in a crucial game.

Bans and Controversies

Unfortunately, Umar Akmal’s career was marked by controversies and bans. In 2020, he was suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for violating the Anti-Corruption code. He had failed to report corrupt approaches, which led to a three-year ban. However, this ban was later reduced to 12 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in 2021.

Akmal also faced several off-field controversies, like getting involved in altercations with traffic wardens, party-related incidents, and even exposing himself during a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy.
